中村助教は2006年から全国で先端科学の学びを提供し高評価を得てきたが、再検証の結果で科学に関心の薄い層が参加していない現実に直面した。画一的なインプット型教育では科学を縁遠く感じる層に届かず、慢心を打ち砕かれた。この経験から「生活と科学を主体的に結び付ける環境」が必要と考え、文系1,400名を含む2,000名規模の一般高校を舞台に、社会を巻き込んだ科学的リテラシー涵養活動を始めた。

Since 2006, Dr. Nakamura has been offering learning opportunities in advanced science nationwide and has received high recognition. However, upon closer review, he faced the reality that those with little interest in science were not participating. Standard lecture-style education failed to reach people who felt distant from science, a realization that humbled him. From this experience, he came to believe that what is needed is an “environment where people can actively connect science with everyday life.” With this in mind, he launched an initiative at a large high school of about 2,000 students—including 1,400 in the humanities track—engaging not only the school but also the wider community to foster scientific literacy.
