Nプロジェクトの始まり / The beginning of the N Project

Nプロジェクトの名付け親たち / The godparents of the N Project

On city streets, a new sight has appeared: high school students talking about radiation while passersby stop to listen. Middle-aged women, in particular, have shown strong interest, suggesting that the project can reach people who once felt science was out of touch with their lives. After two years of preparation, Dr. Nakamura (Kyoto University, Institute for Integrated Radiation and Nuclear Science) and Osaka High School launched the initiative in 2023, engaging all 2,000 students — including those from humanities backgrounds — together with the wider community to foster scientific literacy.
A group of high school students, who had always believed that science had nothing to do with them, suddenly felt a spark of excitement: “We’re going to do this activity together with Dr, Nakamura!” Inspired by that thrill, they spontaneously came up with the name “N Project.” When a high school teachers noticed and embraced their idea, the N Project truly came to life.
