始めてみたら･･･ / Output Response

街行く人が、丹精込めてまとめたスケッチブックを片手に放射線を語る高校生の前に次々と足を止めていく。従来のアウトリーチ活動では見られなかった光景が街角に生まれている。とりわけ目を引くのが熱心に耳を傾ける中高年女性の姿であった。次代を担う若者とのタイアップは、これまで科学を縁遠く感じてきた人々の関心をも引き寄せることができ、放射線という社会的にデリケートな題材でさえも、そのアプローチ次第では社会に受け入れられる可能性があることを示した。一般社会の学力平均層並びに文系理系比率を投影する普通の一般高校（大阪高等学校）を舞台に、2年間の準備期間を経て2023年から1,400名の文系を含む2,000名の全校生徒と社会を巻き込み、関与するすべての人達の科学的リテラシーを涵養させることを目指している。

On a street corner, passersby pause one after another in front of high school students holding sketchbooks they’ve carefully prepared, speaking earnestly about radiation. It’s a new kind of scene, one that hasn’t been part of traditional outreach efforts. What stands out most is the sight of middle-aged women listening with real interest. By teaming up with young people, the project has managed to capture the attention of those who once felt distant from science, suggesting that even a socially sensitive subject like radiation can be embraced if approached the right way. At Osaka High School—a typical school that mirrors society’s balance of humanities and science students—two years of preparation led to a project launched in 2023. Involving all 2,000 students, including 1,400 from the humanities track, together with the local community, the initiative aims to nurture scientific literacy across the board.
